Happy Juneteenth 2026 — Celebrating Freedom, Culture & Legacy | Apex Beauty Academy
On June 19, 1865, freedom finally reached Galveston, Texas. Today, Apex Beauty Academy in Charlotte, NC honors Juneteenth — a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and the enduring contributions of the Black community.
Why We Celebrate Juneteenth
Juneteenth is more than a date in history — it is a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and progress. Today, at Apex Beauty Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, we join communities across the country in honoring this day. While the news of liberation first reached Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed — its legacy lives on in every city that keeps the story alive, including our own Queen City.
That day proved a hard truth: progress means nothing if it doesn't reach everyone — and that work continues right here in Charlotte.
A Message From Our Founder, Jenny
Today, the students and team at Apex Beauty Academy honor the legacy of Juneteenth by coming together in joy, unity, and reflection. As we celebrate this important day, we recognize the strength and contributions of the Black community and recommit ourselves to creating spaces where diversity, inclusion, and opportunity thrive.
— Jenny, Founder & Director, Apex Beauty Academy
Juneteenth Is an American Story
This history isn't just a Texas story — it's an American story. And right here in Charlotte, North Carolina, our community carries that legacy every day. Charlotte's historically Black neighborhoods — from Brooklyn and Second Ward to Beatties Ford Road and the West Side — were shaped by Black builders, educators, entrepreneurs, and artists whose contributions built the Queen City.
From the founding of Johnson C. Smith University in 1867, just two years after Juneteenth, to the civil rights organizing of the 1960s led by figures like Reginald Hawkins and Kelly Alexander Sr., Charlotte's Black community has always led with courage, vision, and creativity.
The Work Ahead
This Juneteenth, let's look back at the struggle, recognize how much work is left to do, and recommit to real equity in our communities. At Apex, we believe beauty is a powerful platform for representation. Every chair, every classroom, and every client is a chance to honor the diversity that makes our industry — and our city — extraordinary.
- Freedom deserves to be remembered.
- Culture deserves to be celebrated.
- History deserves to be shared.
